Media Beat - Norman Solomon
Media Beat was a weekly syndicated column on media and politics written by FAIR associate Norman Solomon that ran in newspapers across the country. Until 1996, the column was co-written by Jeff Cohen, then FAIR's executive director.
Utne Reader called Solomon one of "the fiercest and most articulate media critics around." A Los Angeles Times reviewer wrote: "The bold, muckraking tone of these columns offers a welcome respite from the decerebrated discourse that too often passes for contemporary journalism."
Norman Solomon’s latest book is Made Love, Got War: Close Encounters with America’s Warfare State (autumn 2007). He is the author of War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death (2005), which was excerpted in the print edition of the July/August 2005 issue of Extra!; in 2007 the book was adapted into a documentary film. In early 2003 he co-authored, with foreign correspondent Reese Erlich, Target Iraq: What the News Media Didn’t Tell You. Several of Solomon’s books can be ordered from FAIR’s webstore, including Wizards of Media Oz, Through the Media Looking Glass, and Adventures in Medialand—three collections of Media Beat columns by Jeff Cohen and Norman Solomon.
