News Corpse: The Greatest Danger to Journalism... (3/12/07) by Mark Howard
"...is Fox News," according to Howard, who reacts indignantly to CEO Roger Ailes' call to "respect and encourage diversity of thought and speech in the newsroom" because "the greatest danger to journalism is a newsroom or a profession where everyone thinks alike":If there were an Irony Police, Ailes would be arrested, tried before an Irony Court, and put behind irony bars for the rest of his venal life. There is simply no organization in the news world that has less diversity of thought than Fox News and its parent, News Corp. Their GOP-think ideological blindness extends across newspapers, TV, radio and even into the White House, where a former Fox anchor serves as [Bush]’s press secretary. And it is from that podium that Ailes condescends to lecture on the dangers facing journalism. The irony may only be exceeded by the audacity.
