Robert W. McChesney

Robert W. McChesney is currently an associate professor of journalism at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. In 1999 he will join the faculty of the Institute of Communications Research at the University of Illinois. His work concentrates on the relationship of media to capitalism and to democracy.

He is the author of over 100 articles and several books, including Corporate Media and the Threat to Democracy (Seven Stories Press, 1997), Telecommunications, Mass Media and Democracy (Oxford, 1995) and, with Edward S. Herman, The Global Media: The New Missionaries of Corporate Capitalism (Cassell, 1997). His newest book is Rich Media, Poor Democracy (University of Illinois Press, 1999).

He is a former magazine publisher and sportswriter. McChesney serves on the editorial board for The Progressive and the board of directors for In These Times and the Institute for Public Accuracy.
