It's Cold Outside, So CNN Debates Climate Change

cnn-cold-crossfire

Right from the beginning, the January 6 episode of CNN's Crossfire sounded like a bad idea. Here's the announcement that aired at the top of the show: How far below zero does it have to get to cool off the global warming debate? To make things clearer, the top of the show announcement continued: This week's historic cold brings out the skeptics. Will it put the climate change debate in the deep freeze? But while cold weather might "bring out" climate change deniers, it was CNN that decided to put one on Crossfire, creating a familiar–and false– "balance" between those […]

Fox Regular Calls for Assassinating Obama

Michael Scheuer

Unfortunately, advocating and fantasizing about the murder of perceived enemies of the Fox worldview is a line that has been crossed all too commonly in Murdoch-owned media outlets.

Media Lean Left, Say Journalists Who Don't Really Say That

politico

When establishment journalists were asked about whether media leaned left, so little in their responses addressed what would seem to be the fundamental question: Does what is actually in the media suggest a liberal bias?

With Filibuster Flip-Flops, George Will Displays His (Groucho) Marxist Tendencies

George Will may be the dean of conservative punditry with a reputation for sober consistency, but when it comes to intellectual honesty and principle–well, a person could get whiplash trying to follow his opportunistic and hypocritical positions over the years. On Thursday's Special Report on Fox News (1/21/13), George Will was sad that the Democrats had invoked the "nuclear option," preventing Senate minorities from using the filibuster to block presidential appointments, other than Supreme Court nominees. "It was a melancholy day for American life," said Will: It diminishes minority rights, which are always at threat in a democracy, where majorities […]

CNN Host Sticks Up for the Biggest Bank

Erin Burnett (cc photo: mroach)

Before she was a reporter, CNN host Erin Burnett worked on Wall Street. Evidently she still sees things from that perspective.  On October 21, Burnett took time on her show OutFront to criticize the Justice Department's reported $13 billion settlement with JPMorgan Chase. The bank is apparently ready to settle over a variety of claims relating to mortgage securities and the 2008 economic collapse.  To Burnett, this is the government punishing success–and making the bank pay for things it didn't even do:  This is all related to mortgage-backed securities and bad mortgages. It's a hell of a lot of money, […]
