CNN anchors Carol Costello and Ali Velshi today (9/26/11) provided some rare TV coverage of the Occupy Wall Street protest in Lower Manhattan:
VELSHI: A group of people protesting Wall Street greed are now screaming abuse after they were arrested over the weekend. The incident happened Saturday in Lower Manhattan. The protesters say they were pepper-sprayed, roughed up and denied food and water. Police defending the arrests saying the marchers blocked traffic and ignored orders to stay on the sidewalks.
And here’s an iReport from Saturday’s demonstration. At one point, you can actually see a protester and police getting into a fight. You see that in the middle. At least 80 people were arrested.
COSTELLO: Of course, what you can’t see is what came before the fight.
VELSHI: Yes. We don’t know.
COSTELLO: We don’t know.
Let’s head to Atlanta and check in with Reynolds Wolf. Any extreme weather on the horizon?

This might widen their field of vision:
DEMOCRACY NOW!
Occupy Wall Street Protest Enters Second Week; 80 Arrested at Peaceful March

It’s literally bloody obvious to whom “To Serve and Protect” is addressed, isn’t it?
CNN’s “Velshi & Friends” seemed extremely nasty this morning (Sept 28,2011) when “reporting” on the Wall Street demonstrations.
Velshi made a smarmy comment about how the demonstrators were just now catching on that there were financial problems facing the country.
All the Friends trashed the demonstration/demonstrators because they were “unfocused”, because they seemed to have many different grievances.
They “interviewed” a protester identified as Josh from Denver. They ran a soundbite of Josh saying that he told his boss he had a “family emergency” so that he could come to NYC to demonstrate. I’m fairly certain that CNN just added Josh to the growing number of unemployed Americans.
I’m fairly certain that the Tea Party demonstrations had more than one cause scribbled on their many placards. I don’t remember CNN dismissing them for being “unfocused” or arriving late to protest the federal deficit.
The report was a distasteful display of ganging up and bullying by CNN.
They also ridiculed a protester as hypocritical because she was using an Apple laptop. The mental midget of a reporter cited it as an inconsistency.
The paradigm is shifting from conservative versus liberal to corporations versus democracy.
If the media can talk about the Arab Spring, they can talk about the Wall Street Fall.
Unless, of course, a person really is interested in celebs or sex crimes, which we all know is about taking peoples minds off of the real issues anyhow, one can no longer get genuine news here in the US.
Many of those protesting spent large amounts of time and money on secondary education. They will not be able to follow their dreams. There are no jobs.
Easy to see how Noam Chomsky fits in, since the story has more detail than just greed.
We have become a nation of greed and guns. Militarism rules and Wall Street loves it. We supply the world with weapons of death and destruction–once we supplied the world with goods of life. Now we deal in death and Wall St loves Lockheed Martin and dozens of death dealing corporations hiding behind tax benefits and employees slaves of death making jobs.
It’s time to bring the down the purveyors of death–the Wall St/Pentagon combo. Go to Wall St NYC now. Or go to Washington DC on October 6th and make your voice heard.
CNN. We don’t know.
I am living abroad but so wish I could be there. Thank you to everyone who has the courage to speak for most of the nation to say that finance has too much power and we need to reorient our society towards real people. I believe that is a simple two-point summary of the demands cited during the Counterspin interview. Too complicated for corporate media to understand.
Jack Gilroy! You forgot to mention America’s own home-grown mercenary army Haliburton! Now Americans don’t fight for Love of Country but for Love of Money! They’ll kill anyone if the price is right! And at the same time – thanks to Bush & Co. – we pay one of their minions 10 times as much to perform the same task as one of our own military personnel can do! Why! Because it’s profitable! For Haliburton! And the Bushes! And Haliburton!
More importantly, did you hear that Simone Cowell actually dissed Lady Gaga?@ What the fuck is the world coming to!
BTW Frank, Haliburton had no compition for that contract with the war in Iraq. None other than Chaney’s company because it was a “no bidding” contract.
Of course, that is a de facto violation of the constitution. But, hey, why let a little thing like the US Constitutrion stand in the way. Public officials are not supposed to gain from their office.
CNN1: Wow, a plane just hit the second tower.
CNN2: Of course, what you can’t see is what came before the attack.
CNN1: Yes. We don’t know.
CNN2: We don’t know.
What Are their demands? They better figure that out with clarity before the weather changes.

Hey Robert Grant, you must not know that DemocracyNow! is now the second most popular daily news program in the country.
You’re right that most of our newsmedia are not credible sources of journalism; but now we have 24-hour access to great independent media, and it IS catching on.
Don’t give up yet!

The reasons are many and they are varied, just like humanity itself!!!!
“you must not know that DemocracyNow! is now the second most popular daily news program in the country.”
haha you wish! if you want anyone to believe that, provide a source.
Wealthy Americans just want more:
â┚¬Ã‚¢ more money
â┚¬Ã‚¢ more power
â┚¬Ã‚¢ more tax breaks
â┚¬Ã‚¢ more POOR Americans to die overseas

Johnny…..please get a clue.Class warfare bullshit.I hope and pray that you…your family, and all your friends live fantastic lives filled with wealth ,health, and love. Then everyone can HATE you too for that filthy thing …that dirty word…..WEALTH!
I watch Democracy now /everyday for balance. The show is horribly produced- and presented.Almost in a purposeful way.As far as content.Well i was a Dem once upon a time.i worked for both Clinton and Nader.I am now a tea party conservative. And that means I understand where they are coming from. But it is the reason i am now a conservative. They simply are not telling the truth.Or can’t see the truth due to ideology.Last week Clintons remarks on taxation and Global warming were parsed over.It simply does not fit their mindset. But it is good for balance as I say.FOX keeps telling you how bad life is under Obama and DN keeps telling you how bad llfe is under Bush(bad joke)You get the point.
What I’m trying to get is why the media first tries to ignore, and then ridicules the left for being skeptical of the god-like powers of Wall Street, but the Tea Party, there’s breathless, omnipresent reporters at every klavern, and though CNN and MSNBC add some criticism — occasionally — they don’t do the hard work and figuring out what misery their policies might bring, because the billionaires are all sure that austerity is what we (they) need.
Now, who owns the media? No, no, not ethnic groups, but billionaires do own the great percentage of our means of communication. It should be no surprise that their cute celebrity news readers agree with the billionaire owners.
Yeah Jim i do agree that there should be no sacred cows. And I would always hope that the press would do a thorough job and report the news.I do think the message has to be nailed down. This basic idea that they have more than us, so we are pissed- is un American.
And Im not sold that this is any kind of billionaire conspiracy .That train of thought would lead you inescapably to the conclusion that they OWN the presidency.Because he could always expose them in a meaningful way.His is the “bulliest” of pulpits.I have no doubt we all(and this includes billionaires)do what is in our best nature. But are the billionaires moving heaven and earth to deflect criticism of their lifestyle…..or is the government moving heaven and earth to create class warfare ,and therefore deflect criticism away from their LIFE STYLES?My knowledge of the presidency ,and Obama leads me to believe the latter more so than the former. He needs to blame somebody for the total disaster that is this economy.Bush is finally receding as a blame target.Who is next up?The oldest Dem trick in the book.Or should i say one that never grows old….the rich!Sorry Im just so bored with this canard.Lets face it…the top 15 pays 39%.Top 5 -60%.Top 10-72%.Bottom half pays 3%.These numbers look anything but that the rich are fleecing this country. It is a lie.And these well meaning people are greatly mistaken.
In response to “Michael e”: Democracy Now! is the best news program that has ever been produced for television and the internet. It provides the truth, and in an historical context. It is also very critical of Obama, without telling lies about Obama (the MSM has reported that Obama wasn’t born in the US and that he is a socialist).
THE ONLY REASON MAINSTREAM MEDIA IS EVEN COVERING THE RALLIES IS BECAUSE MANY PEOPLE CALLED TO ADDRESS THE FOR NOT DOING SO. I WENT AS FAR AS TO SUGGEST WE COULD PROTEST AT THEIR OFFICES. THE MEDIA HAS LONG BEEN BOUGHT AND PAID FOR. IT AINT STRANGE.
I don’t read michaele even when he shouts in capital letters.
