Yesterday's New York Times (8/24/10) broughtthis headline: "Afghans Say NATO Troops Killed 8 Civilians in Raid." About thoseclaims, we were told this:
Maj. Michael Johnson, a spokesman for the International Security Assistance Force, as the NATO force is known, said NATO authorities were unaware of any such attack.
Today's Times (8/25/10) brings this headline: "New Case of Civilian Deaths Investigated in Afghanistan." Of civilian casualties, weare toldthat "the issue is a delicate one between NATO and the Afghan government."
And also:
Afghanistan is a tribal society, and the results of botched raids are often difficult to overcome.
Tribal societies sure are strange.

[...] Killing Civilians and Tribal Sensitivities [...]
Those aren't responses.
Such killings would have the same reaction no matte what way people group together. If it was happing in the suburbs or even the exurbs someone would be screaming about bloody murder.
Compare with the claims that sensitivity to the pain of the families of 9-11 victims requires opposition to the placement of the Islamic center. Apparently some sensitivities trump constitutional and community spirit, other sensitivities (about ongoing killings) are of lesser importance — especially when valuing those might interfere with geopolitical or military-industrial complex objectives.
Fellow posters: Do not, under any circumstances, respond to the numbskull who calls himself michael e. Be strong. That is all.

Oh poop. What is wrong with being weak? michael e loves to rail at us because he thinks we are all weak. Our military is strong, right. Strength of that kind always loses eventually. I think this country thrives on military violence and is still its foremost purveyor in the world today, but of course, I could be wrong.
Why aren't any of the FAIR writers on The Daily Show or Colbert. You do such a great service for people who need to read between and lines and have backgrounds filled in. I appreciate this so much. Almost makes me feel sane. Even TimN the Tongue has lashes that I sort of agree with but I don't find them as persuasive a tone as a great entertainment–like a threatdown. Go Tim. Look what happened to that Erickson guy (right wing), he's got a job now on CNN. It's all kind of farcical to me, but killing other human beings is against even human nature, I think. I don't mean that humans don't kill, but they have to be dehumanized in order to do it, from what I hear. OR desperate. I am a pacifist but we all must realize that because we are human we can imagine situations in which we would possibly kill another human, but we work to avoid that in all ways possible. Is there something in the constitution about a standing army? I am so ignorant.
