If you discovered you would be bringing home would be paying 19% more in taxes yourself (somewhere around $2500 a year), wouldn't you feel a little peeved? Certainly you could make do, since most industrialized nations have a median income that is much lower. Does that make you a bad person and take away your ability to be upset about it? I think not. It seems like you are ok with anyone who makes substantially more than median income having their taxes raised by an arbitrary amount, but I don't hear you volunteering your own money. Fines are for punishment. People should not be punished for success, but everyone should contribute to society. Stop being mean about it.
